For this instalment we have a single film on the programme, Alex Johnston’s Dark Cell Harlem Farm. Johnston’s film is a monument to prison abolition and the systemic racism that colludes alongside prison reform to maintain the incarceration of the US’ black population. This one will stay with you for a long time in its direct form of address and moving interviews. But all is not hopeless: in Johnston’s film the progressive raising of consciousness felt as an audience-ex-convict collective offers hope for abolition. Make sure to catch Dark Cell Harlem Farm @1215.
Linked below also are our reviews and interview with Johnston. Make sure to catch these too.
